This class provides a historical overview of European integration from the end of WWI to the years 2000. It focuses on the dynamics of concrete achievements and severe crises from which the EU both deepened and enlarged. It also focuses on how the main actors influence the process.

- The first-generation European organizations and European Communities.
- The 1960 crises.
- From The Hague (1969) to Fontainebleau (1984) deepening confronted to economical and budgetary crises.
- From the Single European Act to the Nice Treaty: the dilemma between deepening and enlarging.
Content and teaching methods
The class is divided in three chapters dealing in the chronological order: the first European projects, the core of European Communities, the enlargement of the Union.
