The lecture tackles the different dimensions of the external action of the EU and the geographical extension of the EU agreements and activities existing at the international level. The course also presents how the EU -thanks to its material competences and its international action - is became a global actor in the current context of the International Relations.
Main themes
The course aims at introducing the different dimensions of the EU external action by explaining the questions of consistency and institutional procedures. The EU external action is both diplomatic and economic; diplomatic and strategic; diplomatic and consular. It also analyses the external agreements of the EU.
Content and teaching methods
- The genesis of the global international action.
- The dimensions of:
a) the trade policy
b) the development and humanitarian aid
c) other external aspects of policies
d) international monetary policy
e) common foreign and security policy including defence
f) external dimension of justice and home affairs.
- Institutional procedures.
- Typology of the conventional agreements of the EU.
