At the end of this course, the student will be capable of identifying the adequate sources, methods and results, in terms of logic and structure, of the in depth analysis of a phenomenon related to the Chinese world, understood as a whole.
The student will develop the documentary basis of their essay, propose different angles from which the topic can be approached. They will devote a special attention to the critique of available sources.
Main themes
From the expertise of Western or Asian specialists of China, the Chiang Ching-Kuo Chair of Chinese civilisation will provide a detailed analysis of a topic related to the Chinese world, either in history or in the contemporary period. This special question will change every year but it will be related to: - The national and international political debates. - Socio-economic problems. - Socio-religious problems. - Population and family questions.
Content and teaching methods
The Chair will consist of a series of lectures, upheld with adequate teaching methods, according to the holder of the chair.

Examination: A critical essay will throw the light on the characteristics of the sources which have been used, their biases and their corollary limits ; the choices made by the authors and their conclusions will also be critically analysed.
