This course is intended to ROM students who have acquired the elementary level (A1). At the end of the course they are expected to have reached the B1 level (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). This course must be followed parallement to the courses of Spanish given by the faculty Philosophie et Lettres de l¿UCL without which the student cannot reach the level expected required to continue ESPA2412 course.
Main themes
This course is mainly practice and seeks to help the student to be autonomous, mainly in the speaking and writing fields. This course wants to be eminently practical and to develop systematically the linguistic abilities of the students by various means of training.
At the end of the course, the student are expected to be able to follow without difficulty the ESPA 2412 course in BAC3, i.e. it must have acquired the following linguistic abilities:
- Can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.
- Can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken.
- Can produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest.
- Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes & ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
Content and teaching methods
The objective of the course is to carry out, as much as possible, a personalized accompaniment of the students. The didactic materials made by the professor as a syllabus. This syllabus is centered in two fundamental parts, one giving a detailed attention to the morpho-syntactic and semantic bases and the other giving a detailed attention to the development of listening comprehension by means of exercises on audio-visual materials available in CD and to the CAA of the ILV. The typology of exercises is much diversified: grammar exercises, videos, songs, role plays in groups, forums via Internet, etc.

Prerequisites:
To have adquired the objectives defined by the courses suggested in the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters in the Bac1.
To have registered the course in his/her program of studies.
To follow in parallel the Spanish courses suggested to the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters in Bac1.
Assessment:
Continuous Assessment with different tests during the year.
