Give an introduction to the analysis of Islam as a social and anthropological fact based a comparative sociology of religions and symbolic systems. This analysis will be led in reference to the European Moslem populations.
Content and teaching methods
Brief introduction to the history of the Islamic religion, the central points of 'doctrines' and institutions. Detailed attention will be given to the dynamic of Islam in the last century. We will concentrate particu-larly on the recent history of the mode of inclusion of the Moslem populations in the European space. State of the art in sociology and anthropology of Islam. Socio-anthropology of Islam membership based on the analysis of individual and collective identities. Sociology of organizations and leaderships. To show the characteristic of the Islamic organization and the contribution of the analysis of this social fact to a general sociology of organizations. Process and presence of Moslem reality in the institutions and in the European urban spaces. Transactions and competitions in progress. Questions concerning the future of European Islam.
Method:
The lectures given by the professor, text portfolio. Movie material will be used. Visits of mosques, and associations will be organized.
