Participants in this course will be invited to reflect upon the models, concepts, methods and means of research and scientific communication in history.
Main themes
The first part of the course (Epistemology) examines the value of methods the historian uses to develop his or her knowledge. This is a reflection upon knowledge as constructed by the historian, and upon the craft of the historian.
The second part of the course (Scientific communication) is intended to introduce students to different forms of communication of historical knowledge, taking account of the specificity of the intellectual steps taken toward synthesis, the requirements proper to an historical dissertation, and the differences that are inherent in various types of written, oral, or audiovisual expressions in the scientific world.
