Aims

Provide each student or scholar interested in Asia Minor or Syria with the necessary philological background.

Main themes

The course will familiarize the student with : 1) the study of Hurrian grammar and texts (Tablets Kbo XXXII 14,15. and Hurrian texts from Emar and Ugarit) ; 2) the study of Luwian texts of the first millenium and of Lycian texts.

Content and teaching methods

Study of Luwian (daughter language of Hittite) and of Lycian; introduction to the Hurrian language. Philological analysis of several inscriptions.

Prerequisite : knowledge of Hittite.
Evaluation : oral exam and home preparation of a text not seen at the course.
Texts and books : photocopied notes will be handed out to the students.
