Aims
- to have an overview of the basic techniques in communication engineering
- to understand the present and future trends of communication engineering
- to get a good knowledge of the main communication services and systems.
Main themes
Content
1. Basic concepts : different kinds of signals, guided propagation (transmission lines), atmospheric propagation, antennas, modulation techniques.
2. The telephone network : transmission and switching.
3. Data transmission : OSI architecture : level 1 : physical supports, baseband, modems, multiplexers, - level 2 : error detecting and correcting codes, level 2 protocols - level 3 : routing.
4. Systems and services : voice, text and image transmission, data communications, public networks (datel, DCS, ISDN, ATM), private networks (LAN).
