- The student should be able to understand in detail articles from newspapers or magazines on issues linked with
economics or business life.
- The student should be able to understand in detail articles on current economic issues in which the author(s)
adopt(s) a specific point of view.

Listening Comprehension
. Individual :
The student should be able to understand in detail lectures, TV programmes or radio programmes on everyday
topics or on issues linked to economics provided the language is standard and the pronunciation is clear.
. Interactive :
The student should be able to follow an everyday conversation provided the pronunciation is clear (even if some
words or expressions would have to be repeated).

Speaking Skills

Main themes
- Learning of business vocabulary based on two books (Test Your Professional English 'Intermediate'and 'Finance')
- Development of specific grammatical structures (infinitive and gerund, reported speech, relative pronouns )
- Correction of common lexical and grammatical mistakes (use of a CD-ROM for self-tuition)
Content and teaching methods
This course is meant for BAC 2 students in economics and management or sales engineering.
This is a 60 hour course taught two hours a week throughout the academic year.
This upper-intermediate course is based on authentic materials (video programmes and articles from business magazines). It aims to teach students the language skills (listening comprehension, reading comprehension and speaking) that they will require for their academic studies and in a future professional context.
Assessment:
- written exam (50% of the overall mark)
- oral exam consisting in a conversation in pairs about a topic related to the business world (25% of the overall
mark)
- work in class (continuous assessment) including a presentation (25% of the overall mark).

The student should have followed the lower intermediate course ANGL 1330 or a course of a similar level, corresponding to the lower B1 level of the 'Common European Framework for Languages' (European Council).
Pedagogical approach
- Reading of business texts outside the classroom using appropriate reading strategies
- Analysis and discussion of these texts in class- Writing of simple summaries
- Analysis of videoprogrammes combining the intensive and global approach
- Presentations during classroom hours

Pedagogical accompaniment
- This is a two-hour course, taught weekly throughout the academic year, in groups of maximum 30 students.
- Every teacher has at least one office-hour a week and can be contacted by email.- Accompaniment at the
Self-Tuition Center (CAA) and the Multimedia Room (SMM)
