Aims
Reading: The student:
- Can recognize significant points in straightforward newspaper articles on familiar subjects
- Can read straightforward factual texts relating to his/her field of interest with a satisfactory level of
comprehension
- Level B1 of the " Common European Framework of Reference of Languages "
Listening
. Individual :
- Can catch the main points in broadcasts about familiar subjects spoken relatively slowly and clearly
- Can follow the main points of a lecture or a talk about a familiar subject spoken relatively slowly and clearly
. Interactive :
- Can follow clear speech in everyday conversation, though in a real life situation sometimes has to ask for
repetition of particular words or phrases
. Level B1 of the " Common European Framework of Reference of Languages "
Speaking
. Individual :
- Can present a short talk about everyday life subjects, can briefly give reasons and explanations for his/her own
opinions and plans
- Can present straightforward and non-complicated descriptions on subjects related to his/her field of interest or
everyday life
. Interactive :
- Can deal with a limited number of easy and straightforward questions
- Can deal with a conversation on topics that are familiar, can express a personal opinion and exchange
information on that topic (family, hobbies, travel, etc)

Writing :
- Can write short and simple notes relating to matters in areas of immediate need
- Level A2 of the " Common European Framework of Reference of Languages "
Main themes
- Ability to master the basic vocabulary (revision of the 2000 basic words) and simple grammatical structures. - Consolidation and development of vocabulary.
- Communication is more important than correction
Culture
Encouraging an awareness of the culture of German speaking countries takes place via all the skills
Methodology (main topics)
- The course is based on different topics (travel, living, publicity, money, internet,...).
- Students will work with authentic documents(for reading and listening).
- Vocabulary and grammatical structures will be practiced, consolidated and developed by means of written and
oral exercises (role plays, interviews, discussion in small groups of 2 or 4)
Content and teaching methods
- 2h per week during one term
- Course for ECGE 11 BA, COMU 11, SOCA 11, HUSO 11 - 3 ECTS
Prerequisites: level A2 of the CEFR
Objectives: level B1 of the CEFR (speaking, reading and listening), level A2 (writing)
Methods and content:
- extension and consolidation of vocabulary and grammar structures
- listening and reading exercises
- oral exercises (individual and interactive)
- written exercises
- activities and texts on general subjects and subjects related to the field of study
Evaluation: autoevaluative tests, written and oral exam

Minimum level: the student must have reached: A2 of the " Common European Framework of Reference of Languages "Admission to this course depends on the placement test that will be organized at the beginning of the year. Students who succeed in this test can have credits for this course in Bac 2
- Different sessions about everyday topics (money, Internet, phone conversation) which are introduced by a short
text, followed by the revision of a grammatical structure and a discussion or a role play.
- A broadcast will help the students to enlarge their vocabulary and finally, the session ends with a written
production in order to apply actively the material covered in this session.
- Small auto-evaluation tests (of vocabulary and grammar) will be organized during the year
