Abstract:
Aristotle’s pambasileus or absolute king (Politics III,
14, 1285b 29-33) is not a theoretical construct, an hypothetical element in
his theory of distributive justice, but a real, existential king who rules justly
over poleis and ethne. The article discusses how it was possible
for Aristotle to include this type of king in his list of orthodox, monarchic
politeiai.
