Abstract:
The riot in the camp of Strabo, the father of Pompeius Magnus, during the siege of Rome did not arise from a plot by Cinna to assassinate the young Pompeius and perhaps also his father, as PLUT., Pomp., 3, 1-5 claims, but was a mutiny which resulted from internal causes. Plutarch has distorted events by concentrating his attention on Pompeius and by contrasting this noble and courageous young man with Cinna, the tyrant, and Strabo, his wicked father. This testimony of the other sources shows that Pompeius, after the death of Strabo, maintained and improved the connections with Cinna that his father had recently established.
