Abstract:
A strong case could have been drawn up against Roscius and there are serious weaknesses in Cicero’s defence, so much so that even a conscientious and unintimated jury might have condemned him, though not necessarily rightly. It is for this reason that Cicero has to divert attention from his client by attacking Magnus and Capito and especially Chrysogonus.
