Abstract:
This paper seeks to establish the high probability of a personal relationship between Themistocles and Alexander, which may have endured over a period of 30-35 years. If such a relationship did in fact exist, it would put into new and somewhat more intelligible perspective certain events in the years between 490 and 465. In particular, the paper argues that the two were pursing policies in the post-war period, which protected each other’s interests and sought to preserve Atheno-Macedonian amity.
