Abstract:
The article discusses the relationship between the two psychic organs, noos and phren. It considers all passages in the lyric poets that mention these two together. Both phren and noos are locations of feeling but noos appears of prior importance. Phren can conceal or hinder noos but can also reveal and direct it; in noos a person’s deepest qualities are to be found.
