Abstract :
Cassius Dio is keenly interested in the Roman games. By listing and categorising all the features of performances that he mentions as taking place, and all measures or events which affected performers on the games as an institution, one can see what it is about the games that he considers to be most important. Dio’s opinions are also manifested by some explicit judgements when narrating material concerning the games. He is most concerned with the cost of the games and how they affect the status in Roman society of the senatorial order.
