Hypomagnesemia, intestinal, with secondary hypocalcemia
|
(hypomagnesemic tetany)
Mg plasma concentration < 0.7 mmol/L. Very rare situation that can be severe and lethal in the absence of treatment. It is due to a lack of absorption of dietary Mg. In the neonatal period: tetany, tremor, seizures
Anesthetic implications:
monitoring of electrolytes and volemia; IV MgSO4 administration potentiates the action of the non-depolarizing myorelaxants and has a vasodilating effect.
