Trisomy 16

Rare. Potential cause of 16 % of the 1st trimester miscarriages.

The real trisomy is more common in boys while mosaic trisomy is more common in girls.

At birth:

-        intrauterine growth retardation

-        heart defect: VSD

-        pulmonary hypoplasia: often secondary to associated malformation: diaphragmatic hernia, lung hypoplasia

-        mild facial dysmorphism

-        clinodactyly

-        occasional skin pigmentation anomalies


Anesthetic implications:

according to the associated anomalies
