Pectus arcuatum

Represents about 5 % of all the sternal deformities. Deformation of the sternum that combines a pectus excavatum with a pectus carinatum (see these terms). In fact, the upper sternum is lifted forward and laterally at the level of manubriosternal junction and of the 2th, 3th and 4th costal arches. It thus forms a sternal bowl under the arch formed by the high ledge of the sternum (that can be confused with a pectus excavatum). The sternum is expanded and short, sometimes asymmetrical.

Anesthetic implications:

echocardiography; check the chest CTScan; evaluation of pulmonary function. Complex surgical procedure.
