Neutropenia, chronic benign familial

[MIM 162 700]

Unknown prevalence. Autosomal dominant or recessive transmission.  It seems to be associated with the Duffy antigen of the blood groups. It is more common in people of African origin (15 %), but also in those from the Mediterranean region or Arabic  peninsula. It may be interesting to have the parental hemogram, even if the absence of parental neutropenia cannot exclude a the diagnosis of neutropenia from ethnic origin.

Often asymptomatic but periodontitis or digital clubbing can be present.

Anesthetic implications:

check blood leucocytes, platelets and red blood cells
