Lemierre, syndrome

(Post-anginous septic syndrome)

Septic complication of an infection of the oropharyngeal region (pharyngitis, periodontitis, tonsillitis) by anaerobic gram-negative germs (fusobacteria, for example, such as Fusobacterium necrophorum) with thrombophlebitis of the jugular veins and septic metastasis, including in the lungs.


Anesthetic implications:

sepsis. Thrombophlebitis of the jugular veins. Exclude the presence of a pre-existing thrombophilia.
