Lane-Hamilton, syndrome

Very rare. Association of idiopathic pulmonary hemosiderosis and celiac disease (see this topic).

Diagnostic elements:

-        iron deficiency anemia

-        lung symptoms: chronic cough, episodes of shortness of breath,  hemoptoic sputum

-        infiltrates or a miliary picture on chest XRay

Retinitis pigmentosa is frequently associated. The cause of the condition is probably autoimmune as a gluten-free diet corrects all the anomalies.

Anesthetic implications:

check hemoglobin levels; chest XRay; SpO2 at room air
