Inferior vena cava , congenital anomalies of the

At least a dozen anomalies have been described some of which are minor variants.


The most frequent are:

-        a left isolated inferior vena cava : O,5 to 2 %

-          a duplication of the inferior vena cava: 1 to 3 %

-          an absence of the retrohepatic supra-renal segment (see inferior vena cava, agenesis): 0.6 %

-         a venous ring around the aorta: 2.5 to 8 %



Anesthetic implications:

none, except in case of absence of the retrohepatic supra-renal segment  (see 'inferior vena cava, agenesis)
