Hypomagnesemia: primary familial with normocalciuria and normocalcemia

[MIM 611 718613 882]

Extremely rare: two cases ! Mg plasma concentration < 0.7 mmol/L. Autosomal recessive transmission. Probably due to a lack of renal reabsorption of the Mg.


Anesthetic implications: 

monitoring of electrolytes and volemia; IV MgSO4 administration potentiates the action of the  non-depolarizing myorelaxants and has a vasodilating effect
