Heyde syndrome

Association in adults of severe aortic stenosis (usually calcified valves) with one or more digestive angiodysplasias (colic) revealed by bleeding and anemia. No studies have confirmed the existence of this association. However, aortic stenosis can induce an acquired Von Willebrand syndrome type II A (see this term) as the resulting blood turbulence modify the von Willebrand factor conformation. This acquired disorder of hemostasis would thus only be an indicator of the presence of angiodysplasias.

Anesthetic implications:

management of severe aortic stenosis, see Willebrand (von) disease.
