Heiner, syndrome

Very rare. Association of allergy to cow's milk and pulmonary hemosiderosis (see this topic) in infants. 

Clinical signs:

-         dyspnea, cough, sometimes blood-tinged sputum

-         more or less important anemia, growth retardation

-         sometimes blood eosinophilia

-         pulmonary infiltrates at chest XRay

-         antibodies against cow's milk proteins

-         spectacular response to the eviction of cow's milk


Anesthetic implications: 

check hemoglobin levels; chest XRay; SpO2 at room air
