Gianotti-Crosti disease

(infantile papular acrodermatitis)
Benign papular acrodermatitis occurring during childhood (1-5 years). It is characterized by erythemato-papular lesions, about the size of a lens, with symmetrical distribution on the face, buttocks and limbs; the trunk is usually spared. The cause is most likely viral: EBV virus (75%), CMV, coxsackie A16, adenovirus 1 or 2, echovirus 8, hepatitis A or B virus, respiratory syncithial virus. It sometimes appear following vaccination. It heals spontaneously within a few weeks.
Sometimes:
- lymphadenopathy and hepatosplenomegaly (in case of EBV, especially)
- the purple coloration of some lesions should not be confused with purpura
Anesthetic implications:
none except a risk of viral contamination of the caregiver during upper airway instrumentation ?
