Evans, syndrome

(Autoimmune pancytopenia)

Very rare. Chronic hematological pathology that associates, simultaneously or sequentially, an immune thrombocytopenic purpura and an hemolytic anemia with a positive Coombs test. Neutropenia is sometimes associated.

Treatment: 

1)                 corticosteroids, immunoglobulin

2)                 immunosuppression or rituximab

3)                 bone marrow transplantation  in case of failure of the other treatments.


Anesthetic implications: 

check complete blood count; side effects of the treatments: immunization, iron overload, etc...
