Epulis, congenital

(Neumann tumour)
Rare benign neonatal tumor, generally solitary and pediculated, flesh-colored, developed from the mucosa of the gingiva on the alveolar edge of the maxilla or mandible . A few cases have been reported that originate from the tongue. Sporadic pathology , more frequent in female and in the Caucasians.
Histology: granular cells with an eosinophilic cytoplasm.
Differential diagnosis: oropharyngeal teratoma, congenital fibrosarcoma, hemangioma, myoblastoma.
Anesthetic implications:
risk of obstruction of the upper airway and difficult intubation. Neonatal anesthesia.
