Convex pes valgus

[MIM 192 950]

(ice axe foot, rocker-bottom foot)

Rare disease equally distributed in both sexes. It is often associated with other malformations or genetic diseases: spina bifida, arthrogryposis, trisomy 13, trisomy 15, trisomy 18. The congenital convex foot (vertical talus) is a malformation associating various components : a prominent calcaneus caused by the plantar flexion of the ankle, a convex and rounded sole of the foot caused by prominence of the head of the talus, and a dorsiflexion and abduction of the forefoot and midfoot on the hindfoot.

The management plan is similar to that of clubfoot (see this term), both in terms of physiotherapy and splints and surgical treatment. Anesthetic techniques are similar as well.
