ALSG syndrome

Acronym for Aplasia of the Lacrimal and Salivary Glands.
Autosomal dominant transmission of a mutation in the FGF10 gene (5p12). Considered a mild form of the lacrimo-auriculo-dento-digital syndrome (see this term).
Association of:
- hypoplasia, atresia or aplasia of the lacrimal tract: epiphora or chronic conjunctivitis
- hypoplasia or aplasia of the parotid and submandibular glands: xerostomia, dental decay
- hypodontia and microdontia: late tooth eruption, moderate enamel hypoplasia, small or absent lateral incisors, oral infections, dental decay
Anesthetic implications:
fragile teeth
