The
National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR)
The National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR) is an independent
research institute. Its objective is to improve the understanding of economic
and social conditions that contribute to growth and prosperity in the
UK, Europe and the world at large. The research programme can be divided
into two equal parts: (1) Macroeconomic research and forecasting on the
one hand, and (2) a variety of work on industrial economics, productivity
comparisons and the labour market. The consequences of European integration
have been a major theme in all of the Institute's work. It is the Leading
centre for macroeconomic modelling in the UK; its models of the UK and
the World are widely used throughout Europe.
