Center of Planning and Economic Research (KEPE)


The Center of Planning and Economic Research (KEPE) was established in1959 and acquired its present name and structure in 1964. Its primary aims are : (1) the scientific study of problems in the Greek economy,(2) the encouragement of economic research and cooperation with other scientific institutions. Among the more specific objectives of the center are : (I) the analysis of current developments in the Greek economy and the preparation of short-term and medium-term forecasts, (II) and also the preparation of short, medium, and long-term development plans (including plans for regional development).

The Center has been, and is, very active in all the above fields carrying out systematic basic research and offering advice to the government on current issues.

It employs about sixty economic researchers, most of whom are Ph.D. holders, maintains a large-scale macroeconomic project and cooperates with other research institutions abroad.
