Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI)

The Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) has been a vital constituent in the Irish national debate on economic and social issues since its formation in 1960. The ESRI is an independent, not-for-profit organisation and receives an annual grant-in-aid from the Irish Government, which covers approximately 30 per cent of expenditure. The rest of its income comes from commissioned research, membership subscriptions, publication sales, and sponsorship by Irish business.

The fundamental aim of the ESRI is to bring the latest thinking in economics and the social sciences to the actual and potential problems of Irish society. The Institute’s research programme covers a broad range of topics including demography, econometrics, education, health, housing, tax & welfare, industrial development, labour market, macroeconomics, public finance & pensions, social disadvantage, regional studies, resource economics, social capital and survey research. The ESRI’s goals are academic excellence, objectivity, relevance to policy, and widespread dissemination of results.

Details of the Institute’s staff, current research projects and publications are available on the ESRI's website.
