Abstract:

Eavesdropping an IP-based network is quite easy, assuming that the traffic is not encrypted using strong means. However, using a text-based sniffer is not so much friendly and makes the traffic monitoring difficult to handle. The goal of this Master thesis is to develop a software that mirrors to the administrator the Internet traffic viewed by the computers on the network. What is displayed to the administrator should be as exactly as possible what is viewed by all the computers on the network, in real time. The result of this work should be a graphics-oriented software under GPL-like license.

This Master thesis can adapted to the profile of the student(s) in order to address more intensively the forensics aspects of the problem, or the WiFi security aspects including the implementation of recently published "still more efficient" attacks against WEP.

Further readings: Candidates for this thesis should have a look at some forensics tools, as Backtrack.
