Message of the Coordinator

Great news for our DYSCO network ! I have been contacted by the Royal Palace: the King has been so enthused by his visit to DYSCO last October that He would like us to participate in the ceremonies of the National Day in July. More precisely, the Palace wants us to organize an IAP Study Day that will take place at the Royal Palace on the eve of the National Day, i.e. July 20. The King wants to see first hand how our study days are organized. The planning of this study day will be organized at our promotors meeting this Friday 2 April; details will be announced as soon as possible. At this stage, I would like to ask all members of the network to make themselves available for this special study day; in particular, if you happen to have already organized your Summer vacation during this period, please make all efforts to reschedule them.

Other great news: let me congratulate Paul Van Dooren, who has been awarded the Francqui Chair 2009-2010 at the University of Antwerp where he will present a series of lectures on "Matrix methods for systems and control". The inaugural lecture, entitled "From Gauss to Google: why matrices matter", takes place on Monday 19 April (see details later in this Newsletter) and I invite you all to attend. As you know, Paul is a great teacher and I am sure this inaugural lecture will be enjoyable to all, experts and non-experts of matrices.

Coordinator of DYSCO
