Message from the Coordinator

The next DYSCO study day will take place on 14 November 2008 at the Palais des Académies/Paleis der Academiën in Brussels. It is located at 1, rue Ducale/ Hertogstraat 1, 1000 Brussels. Please take note of this date in your agenda. The study day will be organized by the ULB team, with support from FPMs. The team of promotors is presently setting up an interesting programme of plenary speakers. We will soon invite poster contributions from the different teams.

We are also working on the update of the DYSCO webpage that lists the PhD students and post-docs from all teams, together with their thesis subject, the name of the promotor(s) and a short abstract. See http://www.uclouvain.be/sites/dysco/PhDStudentsAndPost-Docs/A
If you are a PhD student or post-doc, please check that you appear on this page and that the information is correct and up-to-date. If not, please inform the promotor of your team.

VUB-ELEC

Annoucement of the 2nd VUB-Doctoral school on Identification on Nonlinear Dynamic Systems: 18 May - 12 June 2009

The department ELEC of the VUB, organizes a 4 weeks doctoral school (from the 18th of May 2009 till the 12th of June 2009) to give an intensive training on advanced modelling and simulation techniques of (non)linear dynamic systems, starting from experimental data. Half of the time will be spent on courses/exercises, the other half on a project to get hands-on experience. The material teached during the courses and exercises will be put into practice during a clearly defined project, in order to get hands-on experience. Half of the time will be spent on courses/exercises, the other half on a project to get hands-on experience. The participants should have a good basic knowledge in system theory and signal processing.

The course covers the following topics:

  • A basic introduction to system identification,
  • Identification of dynamic systems,
  • Measuring and modelling of nonlinear systems,
  • Simulation tools for nonlinear systems,
  • Design and characterization of high-frequency (nonlinear) systems (optional: intended for those with an interest in microwave systems).

A general introduction to the program and a detailed overview of the courses content is given at the webpage http://wwwir.vub.ac.be/elec/doctoralschool.htm. The maximum number of participants will be restricted to 15 researchers. Participation to this workshop offers a number of advantages. Besides the training, it can also be the start of a collaboration. To some of the participants we can offer a one year grants to start a research collaboration, or even a full four years grant for a (joint) PhD. Interested candidates are invited to send their curriculum vitae, together with a short motivation why they would like to follow this course, and this before the 17th of January 2009. They can also express their interest in the possibility for a longer cooperation. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like to have more information: email: Ludwig Delocht or Johan Schoukens
