Main themes

This course will focus on the constituent elements of what is called a "book" and will examine the steps toward its completion : from the graphic working-out to the typographic composition, from the architecture of its cover to the lay-out, from rare illustrated books to paperback editions.

Aims

To make futures publishers, booksellers and librarians fully aware of the problems of illustration and lay-out, in the field of the edition, not only as far as the external presentation is concerned, but also on the level of the internal architecture of the book. To get them ready to require and to manage an utmost graphic quality, while taking into account the data of fabrication, selling and conservation.

The contribution of this Teaching Unit to the development and command of the skills and learning outcomes of the programme(s) can be accessed at the end of this sheet, in the section entitled “Programmes/courses offering this Teaching Unit”.
