Prerequisites

Level B2-  of « The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages » for the oral communication skills and level B2+ of « The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages » for the listening comprehension skills.

Main themes

The themes approached may vary according to the current events.
The course treats subjects about themes that are related to the study programme and the future professional needs of the student.
e.g. Business communication techniques (meetings, negotiations, debates, telephone conversations, the professional presentation, applying for a job) .

Aims

Listening Comprehension :

  • Being able to follow and understand in a detailed way most of the news broadcasts and business related radio and television broadcast.
  • Being able to understand discussion and debates concerning business topics.
  • Being able to follow and understand in a detailed way a presentation or conference related to the area of study.

Interactive :

  • Detailed comprehension of what is said and meant in a normal conversation in the Standard Language.

Level C1 of «The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages».

Speaking skills :

  • being able to hold a clearly structured presentation or description including the important details concerning topics related to the area of study.

Interactive :

  • being able to spontaneously communicate orally with a high degree of grammatical correctness  
  • being able to express detailed ideas and points of view and reacting to the interventions of the other speakers .
     

Level B2+ of « The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ».

Evaluation methods
  • Permanent evaluation ( a.o. Skype telephone conversation with Dutch Native Speakers);
  • Listening comprehension test and vocabulary test
  • Oral test

Students who have not frequently been present at the course without a valid motivation and students who have not submitted the tasks asked in the course of the year could be excluded from participating to the exams.

Teaching methods

Listening comprehension on general and business topics. Vocabulary explanation, vocabulary exercises and oral excercises about the theme treated.

Oral business communication techniques : debating, negotiating, meeting, professional presentation etc.

Content
  • The students will come in contact with a variety of audio and video fragments in order to improve their lsitening comprehesion skills. The content of the listening fragments will be focused mainly on business subjects).
  • Improvement of their oral communication skills (focus on business communication skills (meetings, presentations, debate) ) through a variety of oral exercises.

Syllabus LNEER 2710

The audio and video fragments have a strong link with topical affairs. They are often broadcasts of deredactie.be , programmes of the Flemish television such as VOLT, Ook getest op mensen, radio interviews and tourist programmes.
