Main themes

Alternating with LGLOR 2741, this course is given to students of two different levels.

For beginners : assimilation of the script and commented reading of biblical and hagiographic texts.

For those who have followed LGLOR 2741, consolidation of the grammar, and study of different texts taken from a critical edition or copies of manuscripts.

Aims

Study of the Ethiopian language (geez).

At the end of this course the student will be capable of reading and translating a text of average difficulty. To achieve this goal, he will have learnt the script, a basic vocabulary and the bases of the grammar.

The course studies the classical language of Christian Ethiopia through biblical and hagiographic texts.
