Main themes The course deals with the analysis of decisive art criticism texts, with a special emphasis on the impact of this kind of literature on the perception of artistic creation, and with a focus on the interactions between artworks and society.
Aims Acquiring knowledge in the field of the history of art criticism from Diderot to present. Critical assessment of the genre and on its issues related to art theories and to the creation and the reception of artworks.
Evaluation methods

Assessment by final oral examination and/or written assignment.

Teaching methods

Teaching methods: Lectures by the teacher with active participation by the students. Each session should be prepared beforehand by the students on the basis of one or several articles (the list of these articles will be communicated at the beginning of the year).

Content

The course deals with the analysis of debates related to a specific problem, an artistic movement or an artist in a particular historical context.
