LHAGI2540 Special Questions of Museology

Main themes

- permanent collections: types of collections, design of the presentation, contents, use of space;
- temporary exhibitions: design, content, scenography, budget;
- development of educational benefits of permanent collections and temporary exhibitions;
- publicising the event.

Aims

- presentation of permanent collections;
- organisation of temporary exhibitions.

Content Contents: - status of works of art and museum objects; - exhibition halls and museum reserves; - movement of museum (pieces/objects/collections): loans to temporary exhibitions. Style of teaching: Introductory lecture followed by visits and courses at the museum (Musee de Louvain-la-Neuve, Musee royal de Mariemont'..). Compulsory reading: J.-P. MOHEN, Les Sciences du patrimoine, identifier, conserver, restaurer, Paris, 1999.
Other information Pre-requisites: Previous study in a similar subject. Evaluation : Progress on course evaluated via interview/discussion. Support :Bibliography.
