This tutorial is related to ROM 2720, Discourses of Work and Discourses of Time. It follows the same objectives than this course, but it aims mainly at promoting the exportation of the theoretical tools explained during the course and their personal use by students.
The tutorial is therefore an initiation to personal research and prepares to the writing of a thesis in its different steps (analysis, problematic, validation, redaction).
Main themes
The tutorial will deepen a precise theoretical question. According to the given problematic, the texts will be chosen in French literature from the 17th to the 20th century, as well as in French-speaking literatures.
Content and teaching methods
The leading line of the seminar will be to study the status of the mimesis (imitation and representation), which is the theoretical and moral basis for literature in the modern period (16th-18th centuries), and which changes dramatically from one end of the period to the other. This study will be carried out by analysing bimedial genres, that is works associating image and text. One will look into the relations with other literary genres, which use them as sources.
The corpus of texts will be presented during the information session at the beginning of the academic year.
