At the end of the course, students will be able to:
- make out the communicative behaviour of the interlocutors belonging to different societies and cultures;
- act in a effective way on the behaviour and the attitudes, on the knowledge, the know-how and the knowledge being.
Main themes
The course aims at the acquisition of the intercultural competence in second language class: the intercultural awareness is a part of general competence which the learner of a foreign language has to acquire.
So, the consideration of the culture in the foreign languages teaching is essential, not only to communicate effectively, but also because it represents an ethical stake.
Following subjects will be approached:
- the functioning peculiar to the Vietnamese society, in comparison with that of the other societies in the world;
- the articulation between the communicative competence and the skills related to the interactive rules, and between verbal and paraverbal elements.
Content and teaching methods
The course aims at the acquisition of the intercultural competence. It will alternate lectures and corpus analyses related to the subjects.

Evaluation: the student will have the choice between drafting a work or presenting a written examination.
A blended learning approach will be used for UCL's students.
