Provide students with the theoretical background needed to solve problems related to groundwater flow, within the framework of aquifer characterization, management and protection.
Main themes
The course addresses both quantitative and qualitative aspects of groundwater flow. The first part of the course discusses the quantification of groundwater flow and describes the contribution of groundwater to the overall cycle of water, the classification of aquifer systems and permanent groundwater flow modeling techniques. The second part focuses on aquifers including characterization methods by performing transient pumping tests. Important parameters characterizing groundwater quality are presented in the third part of the course, as well as their integration into international and regional standards.
