Give students a solid foundation course in English lexicology. After completing the course, the students should master the terminology and concepts of the field and should have no difficulty reading scientific articles relating to lexicology.

The following topics are covered:
- lexical semantics (conceptual, collocational, connotative and stylistic meaning)
- polysemy
- lexical change
- contrastive lexicology (English-French)
- lexicography (monolingual and bilingual)
- critical lexical analysis (politically correct language; war vocabulary)

Evaluation : Students can choose between the following two forms of assessment:
- oral exam.
- extended essay on a topic connected with English lexicology (+ oral defense).
