In this module, students will develop linguistic, pragmatic and textual communicative language competences. They will have to produce various types of texts (including descriptive, informative, argumentative and narrative) on a wide range of subjects. They will be able to pass on detailed information reliably.
Main themes
In each lesson, students are involved in the communicative act by producing a text of their own (speaking or writing) in order to improve their productive skills. They come to be able to carry out various oral tasks ( radio reports, interviews, storytelling¿) and various "types of texts" (letter, articles, leaflets, handouts, notices, directions for use¿) with different purposes ( speaking or writing to convince, to tell, to explain, to describe¿). For each production, students have the opportunity to learn vocabulary, to improve their pronunciation and their orthography, and to deepen some grammatical competences ( use of tenses, pronouns, use of syntax¿).
Content and teaching methods
The first part of the lesson focuses on discovering a form of communication from authentic materials (written, audio or audio-visual). Students deepen the theme of the document through activities in small groups; the second part of the lesson directs towards writing a text in accordance with the form of communication that has been studied. In order to do so, students will use the technique of "re-writing": students write a text with the help of a model that they have to adapt and change to produce their own text in conformity with specific requirements. After the text has been corrected by the teacher, students will have to rewrite it at home.
Students are invited to have a "roadmap" dedicated on correction ( of vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, orthography, use of syntax, narrative strategies¿). The course provides a wide range of authentic materials (TV video-news, documentaries, internet materials, radio, newspapers, handouts, unusual items¿) in order to vary learning process. The teacher alternates "technical" ( for ex: argumentative texts) and creative lessons.
