A reading and listening comprehension "course" aimed at equipping students with the receptive skills necessary for understanding general, authentic scientific texts.
Remediation and consolidation of grammar, vocabulary, reading and listening skills and strategies.
Main themes
Self-study approach: students are required to prepare a portfolio of reading and listening texts. Tutoring sessions - "monitorats" - focus on specific language areas and students' questions.
To achieve these aims we will tackle :
- Reading strategies in a foreign language.
- The extension of scientific and specific vocabulary relating to science.
- The grammatical structures of the English language.
- Listening decoding strategies in a foreign language.
- English pronunciation and stress patterns

TEACHING METHODS
- Extensive reading of texts at home using reading strategies and note-taking techniques.
- Content-based activities in class.
- Analysis of and comments on the texts.
- Lexical extension exercises and comments on language points
ASSESSMENT
- Placement test at the beginning of the year:
- 10/20 or more : self-study
- Less than 10/20: tutoring sessions
